The Monsters of Freestyle: Back in Black Edition is back this year at the NYCB Theatre on Saturday, October 21, 2023. Presented by Brian Rosenberg and Fever Records, this event is part of the Catholic Health Concert Series which will include freestyle artists TKA, Rob Base, George Lamond, and C-Bank. Joining them are Sweet Sensation, Safire, Brenda K. Starr, Soave, Covergirls and more!

Headlining the concert is TKA, a Puerto Rican Freestyle and Dance-pop trio hailed by many as the “Kings of Freestyle.” Tony Ortiz, Louis "Kayel" Sharpe, and Angel "Love" Vasquez started out in the New York City Latin club scenes and eaked during the early 80s and 90s in Freestyle hotspots such as Miami, Florida and New York City. Some of their greatest hits include “Louder Than Love,” “One Way Love,” “You Are the One,” and “Maria.”

Joining the kings is solo artist Rob Base, the genius behind hip-hop classics, “It Takes Two” and “Get On the Dance Floor.” He is originally known as one-half of the hip-hop group “Rob Base and DJ E-Z Rock”, the Harlem-based duo that paved the way for hip-hop to enter the pop music scene during the late 80s.

George Lamond is also part of the lineup. He is a dance-pop singer known for freestyle hits, “Without You” and “Look into my Eyes.” Songkick shares that “His concerts are overtly stimulating, in both audio and visual contexts. Loud blasts of electronics blare from the speakers and flashes of light shoot on and off the stage.”

Lastly, earning the “Freestyle Lifetime Achievement Award” for the night is C-Bank, an electronic dance project by remix legend Rohn Robie and lead vocalist Jenny Burton. The group first rose to fame with their synth-heavy single “One More Shot,” rising the R&B charts in 1983. One of their most popular freestyle dance tracks is “I Won’t Stop Loving You,” featuring Diamond Eyes.

The New York Community Bank Theater, also known as the NYCB Theater at Westbury, is the go-to venue for top entertainment shows including country, rock, pop, rhythm and blues concert events as well as various comedy acts.
