Dion DiMucci, or mononymously known as Dion, has a lengthy career as one of the most prominent performers of the pre-British Invasion era, spanning nearly seven decades. He’s a doo-wop jukebox legend, a blues master, and a folk icon, with a brief period of dabbling in Christian music also in the bag, and even though he is just shy of 87 years old, he is still performing and releasing new material. It’s safe to say that even though Dion has a few miles on the odometer, there’s still a lot of fuel in the tank.
There is hardly a better way to celebrate music and memories at one of the nation’s most iconic live entertainment venues than with an icon delivering everything but a nostalgia-show. Dion and his guitar-driven sound, strong and expressive voice that doesn’t seem to have aged a single day, charming showmanship, and relevant, vital, and contemporary hotpot of legendary doo-wop classics and soul-searching blues and rock and roll, still has the charisma to get his multi-generational audiences to eat out of his hand. This isn’t the characteristics of an oldies-show - it’s a rock and roll experience, and while the heat of summer is slated to be in the air, Dion will bring the cool.
The Flagstar at the Westbury Music Fair is one of the nation’s most unique, most adored live entertainment venues. What started as a tented performing arts venue, eventually turned into a theatre in 1966, built by Lee Guber and Shelly Gross, with its very first performance being a production of The King and I.
The Flagstar’s theatre-in-the-round design leans itself to a unique theatrical experience with impeccable sight-lines, and through the years have welcomed countless world-renowned acts to its stage - from The Doors and The Supremes to The Jackson 5 and Nina Simone. Apart from its rich seven-decade history, the Flagstar at Westbury Music Fair also boasts state-of-the-art sound and lighting, brilliant acoustics, and amenities that cater for every want and need. The venue can host up to 3,000 patrons across an orchestra floor with eight tiered rows and two mezzanines, arranged around the Flagstar’s iconic rotating stage.
