In 1967, Humperdinck made rounds internationally through his recording of "Release Me". He then gained massive success in American charts with "After the Lovin'" (1976) and "This Moment in Time" (1979). From then on, the man's swoon-worthy vocals and ballads have struck millions of hearts around the world. By the end of that decade, he scored a roster of hit songs including "I'm a Better Man (For Having Loved You)", "Am I That Easy to Forget", "The Way It Used to Be", and of course "Winter World of Love".
From the 80s through the turn of the millenium, Humperdinck kept recording and performing on tours. He's known as a concert performer, and showed no signs of slowing down through the 2010s. As he just turned 89, the man shares some fun bits of what it feels to have a non-stop career, what songs keep him alive, and many more in a conversation with Rayo.
"As we travelled on and curtains went up in different parts of this world, the energy I got back from the audience has filled me with fuel for 89 and a realisation that it’s not my time for that curtain to come down," he shared, all set to another year of touring following 2024's "The Last Waltz Tour".
So, what's keeping his legacy alive? Well, it's karaoke. "Most of my songs are on karaoke because people love to sing them, and of course, that’s what kept it alive all these many years, and I’m very happy about that," he shared, recalling a time in Hong Kong when he went on karaoke and sang a couple of his songs while many people started coming from other rooms to hear him sing.
With music that remains special to this day, all his awards and milestones are thanks to the everlasting support of his fans - both long-time and newcomers to the family. Through the years, his heart remained the same - all for the love of sharing a warm embrace through song.
