Released in 1979, the five-time platinum work broke into the Top 10 of the mainstream charts and spawned four quintessential soft rock titles: “Ride Like the Wind,” “Sailing,” “Say You’ll Be Mine,” and “Never Be the Same.” Meanwhile, listeners were totally captivated by Cross’ incredible knack for songwriting. His compelling lyrics conquered the radiowaves, making him one of the most listened-to artists of the era. “Sailing” alone secured him three Grammys. The single was also named the most softsational soft rock of all time by VH1. Fast forward to 2024, the song still clocks in an immeasurable amount of streams – the song has garnered a total of over 200 million listens across music platforms.
