Belinda Carlisle is an iconic singer known for her work with the legendary band the Go-Gos. Her powerful voice has been one of the band’s best assets and yielded several hits, like “Our Lips are Sealed” and “We Got the Beat.” Carlisle released incredibly successful albums with the band. Her first album with the Go-Go’s Beauty and the Beat dominated the Billboard 200 and sold over two million copies. Their sophomore effort was also a commercial success, peaking at number 8 on the Billboard 200, and was certified gold for selling half a million copies. Carlisle, along with the Go-Go’s, were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2021.
In 1986, Carlisle dropped her solo debut album, Belinda, and instantly broke into the Billboard 200 charts, peaking at number 13. The record, which spawned iconic hits such as “Mad About You,” “I Fell the Magic,” and “Band of Gold,” earned a gold certification after selling over 500,000 copies. One year later, Carlisle dropped her sophomore effort, Heaven On Earth, which made waves worldwide. The album featured Carlisle’s most famous hit, “Heaven is a Place on Earth,” which skyrocketed the album’s success. The single also earned Carlisle her first Grammy nomination for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. The 1987 album is now certified platinum in the U.S. and New Zealand, double platinum in Canada, and triple platinum in the U.K.
